The end of the first quarter is rapidly approaching us! Friday, November 4th is the last day of the first quarter....students in grade 9 are about to be 1/16th of the way through their high school career while it seems like yesterday it was 80 and humid and we were here for our first week of 9th grade!
Students in Mr. Smith's Algebra I classes will be spending a lot of time in the upcoming few days, working on Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division of whole numbers, integers, rational numbers(including fractions and decimals). These skills are important to Algebra much like fluent reading is to reading a book for understanding. If the basic math skills are present, students will likely be more successful with more difficult math concepts without getting bogged down in calculations. Each student may need a varying amount of practice and I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE students to develop flash cards, utilize on-line practice or seek additional practice problems from me.

HELP!
Students needing extra help should stop by and see me. I may be able to help during a drop in visit but if not, we will schedule a time that works for us both. I am almost always at school by 7:00 but the doors do not open until 7:30 am, so if an early time works, I need to know the day before.
During the month of November, I have morning duty in the lobby and will not be in my classroom between 7:30 and 8:00 am, therefore, students can find me in the main lobby during that month. With the exception of November, drop in visits should work during that time frame.
Students in need of additional help beyond their scheduled class time, my availability is indicated below:
Green Day White Day
Block 1 8:40 - 9:20 Block 1 8:00-9:20
Block 4 - 2:00 - 2:40
I encourage students if and when possible, see me to make arrangements for help. Some of the times listed, I may not be in my room unless I know students are planning to come in for help. Additionally, some of those times may not work, it simply depends on the plan that day but most days I can fit in a few minutes to help.
